What is the Ogham ?

From the ancient mystical forest of the Druids comes the knowledge of the Ogham the Celtic tree alphabet. Since the dawn of humankind, trees have been our mothers. Trees gave us their bodies to provide shelter, fuel, materials for our home our tools and toys. Food and healing medicine protection, wisdom and inspiration. With the rest of the vegetation they balance the groundwater table the weather the climate and the electric magnetic field of the earth Trees are also antennae for cosmic energies. They are connecting earth and sky. They partake in every wisdom every memory and experience that exist. They are doorways, gateways to other levels of consciousness. In Irish bardic texts is the evidence that the Ogham has been used in magic and divination. Way of Joy like to invite you to get a closer to these wonderful beings. To listen and feel the trees which will help us to get in harmony connecting us with Sky and Earth and learning to live a life of beauty on this planet.

The Ogham sticks are collected on wonderful Druidic walks .Before heading off to a wood or sacred places I get in contact with the spirit of the place and ask for their blessing and guidance. and as I enter the places I can feel the presence of the trees their spirits welcoming me .I feel I’m in a different world and sing the Awen as I walk along with my dog. Opening my mind and feeling mostly to a oneness with all that’s surrounds me. After a while if I may talk to the trees in my mind and ask them for their blessings and if there is anything I may be able to do for them. Many times I am guided to a tree which needs healing or simply to be liberated of litter. They seem not to like it at all and the whole energy around the tree seems to change. If I need more sticks to work with I tell ask the spirit of the trees to guide me and show me sticks which were falling to the ground. And as they know what I’m looking for they guide me and I will find little sticks, which are special. This special can be in different shapes or forms, patterns or beautiful knotholes.
I collect these little gifts from the trees and send them blessings and when the time is right I leave the place saying thank you to all the trees, the animals and the spirit of the place.

At home I will have a look at my gifts from the trees and will go in a druidic meditative state of mind and feel and see how I can make a new Ogham charm with it. Every little Ogham is made with loads of time love and Awen and anoint with different 100% natural aroma oils.The rest of the of the little sticks like the bark or unsuitable little pieces are used for the sacred fires in my garden. The Apple tree can teach us to open our hearts to the abundance in our life’s. The apple may also teach us to love freely out of the beauty of our hearts. If we can do so we create ripples of love and happiness and infect others of doing so too. In some legends the apple is also about immortality. Learning with the apple tree, we may understand that we are immortal beings as our soul travels always on. Sometimes the apple can help us to gain visions of what choices we are able to take.

Blackberry/Muin

The blackberry will teach us about boundaries in our social life. Sometimes we may burn ourselves out in helping and being with other beings. Blackberry will help us to protect ourselves and to have the right boundaries. We are social beings and need the contact with others, but we also need our time for reflection and being alone. If we live in that balance being with others will be experienced more with joy and light and all the help we offer to this planet will be more effective. Blackberry will also teach you how to take care of your body, as we need a healthy body to move on.

Blackberry is also teaching us about prosperity and abundance.

Ivy/Gort
we are all on a spiritual journey which is called life on this planet. Ivy can help us to unite ourselves with others. Ivy is binding many trees in the forest, but if Ivy is growing to much it may become destructive and even kill some trees. Ivy can help us to see where we bind us and with it restrict us, instead of uniting us with others through the group collective soul. It is strongly related also with freedom. We put attention too we become aware of.

Cleaning up in all levels of our life. Broom can show us what we need to sweep out of our life’s which may have had value in the past but now it is only clutter we need to get rid off. If we want to move on lightly we need less baggage and harmony will come in our way.

When life is a challenge blackthorn can help. Sometimes it may feel that you have no choice and fate takes you over to unforeseen events. In reality you always have a choice and in those situations blackthorn can show you how to make find a way to create a good outcome. If you understand your situation and your thoughts are positive the outcome will be positive too.

Elder/Ruis

This tree has the wise woman energy and will teach you about changes and regeneration. This tree has the old crone energy and is drawing the protection of the triple Goddess on you. She gives us the wisdom that in every beginning is an end and in every end is a beginning in understanding this process your outlook will be more balanced and mature.

Sometimes we feel that all our hard work only brought us a harvest of despair, but Gorse has the power to restrain our hope again. Gorse is telling as that there is an always a harvest after hard work. Like the bee has gathered plenty pollen to create honey you have gathered a lot of wisdom on your spiritual path which will come to fruition soon. Heather/Ur

Heather is connected with luck and happiness. If we are positive in our inside we will be lucky and successful. Heather can help us to have this positive thinking. Positive thinking can grow in a peaceful mind. Sometimes people can become preoccupied with themselfes and forget about all other people’s needs. Heather will show us that if we heal us we are able to heal others too. We are all connected. If we have this peace inside ourselves we are opening ourselves for guidance which will lead us to think positive and create happiness in our life’s and around us.

Aspen/Edhadh
Have you ever noticed that this tree is whispering? A small wind makes the leaves whisper. It is said that the wind carries the voice of the spirit. Aspen will teach us to listen to our inner voice .We may perceive many messages which are full of fear and mistrust to life. Aspen will teach us to trust yourself and life and listen to our own voice of spirit.

Yew/Idhad
The Yew is teaching you about ending circles Dead and Rebirth. Death is perceived as loss, but Yew teaches us that this is a part of the circle of life. Bye turning our face to our own death we will see that we have been always loved and our plenty journeys on this planet is a circle. The universal love and support were always with us. The Yew also reminds us that there are other levels of existence beyond the one we daily see. By getting the awareness of the illusion of life we are able to connect with the wisdom and love which has always been there, and will be flowing and transforming life.
